Emma Bohan is the Managing Director of IMS Heat Pumps, in this Q&A we explore what she is looking to bring to Build North Expo in her keynote speech.
Q) Who are IMS Heat Pumps, and what is your role within the company?
A) IMS Heat Pumps is a UK leader in designing, installing, and maintaining energy-efficient heat pump systems.
We collaborate with builders, architects, and construction managers to deliver tailored heating solutions for new builds, renovations, and retrofits, ensuring projects meet building regulations and sustainability targets. As Managing Director, I drive the commitment to supporting the industry in transitioning to low-carbon heating systems, in line with the Future Homes Standard.
Q) What are you hoping to bring to Build North Expo?
A) We want to demonstrate how heat pumps are a practical, future-proof heating solution for a variety of projects – whether it’s new builds needing to comply with the Future Homes Standard or renovations and retrofits looking to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs. My presentation will explore how heat pumps can be seamlessly integrated into projects of all scales, while also busting myths that may deter adoption.
Q) What are you hoping that visitors learn about heat pumps and the company in general?
A) We hope visitors understand how heat pumps can help their projects – whether they’re working on new homes, renovations, or retrofits. Heat pumps are not just about compliance with building regulations like the Future Homes Standard; they also offer long-term cost savings, efficiency, and environmental benefits. We want people to know that IMS Heat Pumps are a trusted partner who provide expertise and support across all project types.
Q) I noticed in a LinkedIn post that your talk is hoping to do some ‘myth busting’ around heat pumps. With this in mind, what are a couple of the biggest misconceptions about heat pumps?
A) Two myths we’ll tackle are:
“Heat pumps are only suitable for new builds.” This isn’t true. Heat pumps work equally well in older properties and retrofits when installed with the right design and expertise, making them a flexible solution for all project types.
“Heat pumps require underfloor heating or larger radiators to work.” While underfloor heating can enhance performance, heat pumps can often integrate with existing radiator systems, making them suitable for both renovations and retrofits.
Q) How do you believe IMS Heat Pumps is going to benefit by attending Build North Expo?
A) The Expo is a chance to engage with builders, architects, and construction managers, showcasing how we can support new builds, renovations, and retrofits.
It allows us to highlight how heat pumps not only meet the Future Homes Standard but also deliver practical benefits for all types of projects. We look forward to sharing our expertise, building relationships, and demonstrating our role in creating sustainable, energy-efficient developments
